The always unique linear patternings that exist in nature – just as often fleeting and ethereal as earthly and intense – were the inspiration for the new Forbo Marmoleum Striato Nature’s Grain collection.
Reflecting nature’s own lineal beauty, Nature’s Grain offers unrestrained organic lengths of contrasting striations of soft and strong, warm and cool tones. Forbo’s specialised production process means it has no repeats or borders.
As part of the Marmoleum family of products, it carries all the features, benefits and eco-qualities of this global benchmark and market-leading, ecologically sound bio-based floor covering. Nature’s Grain has natural, permanent properties that kill MRSA and norovirus, it is anti-static and comes finished with Forbo’s patented Topshield for R10 slip-rated safety underfoot, low maintenance and exceptional performance.
With a colour palette of 17 vibrant and elongated linear designs, Natures Grain offers extraordinary design and visual appeal.
Additionally it provides exceptional value in comparison to alternative timber look flooring products.
With more independent LCA-based eco-credentialed labels than any other flooring, Marmoleum is Good Environmental Choice Award (GECA) certified (GECA 25-2011-V2 Floor Coverings) and achieves SMaRT PLATINUM rating. ISO 14001:2004.
Forbo has a 100+ year pedigree in resilient flooring and applies LCA methodology to optimizing the environmental profile of all its production and processes.

High Performance with Topshield
Topshield is a patented surface system designed to perform, but not detract from the environmental performance of the product. Conventional PUR systems are good for function at the cost of environmental performance. Topshield is an exception to the rule and a proud accomplishment of Forbo. Topshield reduces floor care costs and ensures the product looks good throughout its life.
Sustainability
Forbo believes that sustainable developments and products should aim at meeting present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. As part of its environmental policy the company follows the 1987 General Assembly’s Resolution of the United Nations on sustainability.
Life Cycle Analysis – Cradle to Grave.
Production today and production tomorrow is only possible when the raw materials will be abundantly available and renewable. The Nature’s Grain collection is a prime example of Forbo’s commitment to protecting the environment and investing in a sustainable future. The collection is made using 100 percent renewable green energy in a modern ISO14001:2004 facility.
Forbo claims its responsibility to create a better environment, to manage the impact of its products and processes. Therefore it works with the Life Cycle Assessment method (LCA), a scientific method recognising all environmental impact categories (from raw material extraction production and taking care of the end-of-life phase of a product). LCA provides a clear and objective score that allows measurements of achievements in a transparent way.
Marmoleum carries the most independent third party LCA-based environmental labels and certifications of all resilient floorings, has a 100-year plus track record of performance and durability and sets a benchmark unmatched in the resilient flooring industry.
Forbo was the first flooring company to measure its environmental footprint using Life Cycle Assessment.* Based on LCA Forbo has set a target to minimise the environmental impact to a 25 percent improvement by the end of 2015, across all products.*1994 Leiden University, The Netherlands
Marmoleum – Natural Renewable Raw Materials that are bio-degradable….
Marmoleum is made from 97 percent natural raw materials, 70 percent of which are rapidly renewable, along with a 40 percent recycled content.
Linseed
The backbone of the Marmoleum product is responsibly grown in North America utilising zero til and crop rotation techniques with minimal fertilisation ensuring fields remain fertile indefinitely.
Pine Rosin
Tapped out of pine plantations in Indonesia where the health of the tree is not affected and it continues to thrive.
Wood Flour
A bi-product recycled from the timber milling industry in Germany. All timber sources are from PEFC certified plantations located throughout Europe. We use wood flour, rather than cork, for a superior colour fastness and finer finish.
Pigments
Only the most responsible and naturally based pigments are used. Limestone is sourced from abundant deposits. Limestone is one of the most common minerals on the planet.
Jute
Jute or the backing sometimes called hessian is grown in Bangladesh for use in numerous applications including floor coverings. Forbo purchases 3000m jumbo rolls from the highest quality suppliers. Part of the supplier’s agreement is that for each roll purchased a percentage of profits goes to the local community in the form of education grants. Giving back to the community.
