For designers, architects, specifiers and other build and design professionals in Queensland, travelling interstate or abroad for inspiration and ideas can be exciting but often, products are not suitable for the Queensland way of life.
In 2012, the build and design industry in Queensland will be inspired by products, services and ideas specifically suited to the Queensland climate and living conditions, with the first ever Build & Design Queensland trade only expo opening at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on Wednesday 9 May – Friday 11 May.
With some major projects in Queensland currently under way and on the horizon, including flood and cyclone recovery, residential housing in booming mining towns and the 2018 Commonwealth Games, trade visitors won’t just see the latest products from the build and design industries according to Exhibition Manager, Michael-William Kelly, they will be able to easily explore ideas and concepts that suit and enhance the Queensland lifestyle.
“Feedback from the industry has indicated that the Queensland market has its own set of design and building needs.
We have designed the Build & Design Queensland exhibition in consultation with the industry to offer a portfolio of suitable exhibitors and seminars that provide all the latest information, ideas, advice and innovation, so that busy Queensland professionals can find everything they need for their next project or tender” he said.
The Build & Design Queensland expo will feature a Live Profile Stage with industry panel presentations, a ‘Green Tag’ pavilion in conjunction with Ecospecifier, build products specifically tailored to the Queensland climate and the very latest design driven interiors that will move Queensland design thinking forward.
With over 150 exhibitors expected to showcase their products and services, here is a glimpse of just some of the products that will be on show.
WINDOWS
Safetyline Jalousie – General Manager, Leigh Rust
“Louvres allow maximum air circulation – when fully open, they allow twice as much air to circulate compared to traditional window designs.
By maximising cool breezes and allowing cross-ventilation, the need for air conditioning in summer is significantly reduced. In winter, louvre windows seal to keep warm air in, and harsh elements and draughts out. Energy bills can be reduced all year round.
Safetyline Jalousie louvre windows are an excellent choice for cyclone prone areas such as Queensland, due to our cyclone rating of 3 and a Water Penetration Resistance rating of N5, C3 (400Pa),” he said.
The unique features or differentiators of the Safetyline Jalousie louvre windows:
- They are one of the widest louvre windows in the market – with widths of up to 1.4 metres.
- They have inbuilt security plus optional stainless steel rod
- They boast weatherproof seals
- They have complete floor to ceiling capabilities
- They have Internal insect screens
- They have a sturdy operating mechanism
DOORS
Wrought Iron Shop – Director, Craig Wilson
“Our range of premium quality iron entrance doors offer value adding style and beauty to the finest homes.
All of our typical Australian entry door issues such as security, quality, ventilation, insects, are solved by installing just one set of Wrought Iron Shop doors.
We believe our products address a need in the market for more stylish finishes for designer homes and businesses and we’re proud to be showcasing our range at Build & Design Queensland,” he said.
FLOORS
Ace Stone + Tiles – Marketing and Operations Manager, Laura Peronace
“‘Pietra Del Nord’ is a newly released product exclusively distributed by ace stone + tiles. This porcelain tile is contemporary, with warm and neutral colours and is available in five colours and in a range of sizes.
It has been awarded LEED certification, which includes recyclable material, low emitting materials and energy performance, while Pietra Del Nord is also water resistant and highly durable.

Mr Kelly said they were expecting up to 4,000 visitors to attend the expo over the three days.
“We have leading industry associations onboard alongside award winning and innovative exhibitors, and we hope Build & Design Queensland will become the must-attend event of the year for industry professionals who are heading into a busy future of flood recovery, mining boom and the Commonwealth Games construction,” he said.
