Last Thursday Becker Building opened the doors to their latest completed project, the privately owned House at Bonbeach. The house fronts directly onto Victoria's Bonbeach and has a breath taking view across the ocean. From the moment you approach the dwelling you can tell that Becker Building have taken the time to ensure the project was completed to the highest of qualities. Given the harsh environment of the coastal location, durable external materials were required to ensure the renovation would stand up against the high winds and salt air environment. Attention has be paid to the flashing and roof construction to ensure the building could cope with coastal weather. The roofing and flashings were manufactured by Bayside Flashing and Ventilation.
Zinc cladding has been used to withstand the high winds and salt spray, while also providing contrast and texture to the facade. The zinc panels were folded by Metal Cladding Systems using VM Zinc. James Hardie's Scyon Matrix was then used around the windows and as a contrasting cladding system. The result of the two products sitting adjacent to each other is a house with a facade that is contemporary and crisp. The strong linear lines and cube like shapes of the exterior make this house a beautiful modern feature on the Bonbeach water front. Above all else though, the project is an example of intelligent design and specification, where materials and environment have been well matched.
